IAM Weekend is an annual gathering for creative thinkers & doers exploring the futures of the internet(s).
We were invited by Internet Age Media and Pitch Studios to collaborate on the visual identity for IAM's 2020 event, 'The Weirdness of Interdependencies'.
We created visuals that sought to evoke a sense of belonging to intricate and tactile ecosystems that abstractly represent real life microbiomes.
Our key part to play was digesting big ideas into clear visuals and building a world for these concepts to live in.

The identity manifested as video and digital assets that were used for promotion and throughout the event. This included a full length trailer, key topic and speaker identifiers, countdowns as well as a social component Instagram Face Filter.
The event, which was due to take place in Barcelona: March 2020, was rapidly developed into an Internet based conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We, along with the IAM and Pitch teams, quickly adapted the assets as a successful online event.
An Instagram Face Filter was made in collaboration with The Young Never Sleep as a shareable, fun and interactive piece that visually communicated the necessity to more deeply consider our relationship with natural, technological, and digital ecosystems.
The result was a techno-ecological center of attention with revolving faces of the user.
We provided assets, materials, animation and support in its development.
A central concept was zooming in + out across micro and macro scales of a virtual ecosystem to reinforce interdependencies within Planet Earth as a complex living organism.
These worlds within worlds acted as jumping off points to ask the event's big questions:
How can we change the digital economy to address the environmental emergency?
What if we design for
humbleness?
plurality?
responsibility and accountability?
empathy and tolerance?
solidarity?
